National Safety Awareness Month is a timely reminder that even familiar tasks on the farm can turn dangerous in an instant. From equipment rollovers to grain bin accidents, farming-related injuries often happen quickly and are frequently preventable.

According to the CDC, 21,020 injuries in agricultural production required days away from work from 2021 to 2022.

The National Safety Council highlights four weekly themes throughout June:

  • Continuous Improvement – Revisit your safety protocols and emergency plans.
  • Employee Engagement – Encourage crew members to speak up about hazards.
  • Roadway Safety – Be visible and alert when operating machinery near public roads.
  • Mental & Physical Wellbeing – Fatigue and stress reduce reaction time and increase injury risk.

On the farm, prevention means slowing down to check PTO shields, double-checking hitch points, maintaining equipment regularly, and using rollover protection systems (ROPS). Even simple tasks, like keeping first-aid kits stocked or using proper hearing protection, can make a big difference over time.

Farm safety doesn’t just protect your team — it protects your livelihood. Learn more about the benefits of getting involved from the NSC.
