John Deere Introduces AI Assistant for Farm Data

John Deere has introduced JD, an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant built into its Operations Center platform that allows farmers to interact with their field, machine, and operational data by asking questions.

The company said JD is designed to help farmers use data collected through Operations Center to identify trends, compare performance, and support operational decisions. John Deere also announced its Farmer Data Commitment, which outlines principles related to farmers’ control and use of their data.

How JD Uses Farm Data

JD is designed to provide answers based on a farmer’s own data rather than requiring users to search through multiple dashboards or reports.

Farmers could use the AI assistant to compare fuel use during tillage across multiple years, examine singulation across fields and its relationship to yield, compare sprayer operator productivity, or review historical trends to help determine harvest timing.

John Deere said the system can provide information on machine productivity, field performance and other operational data, with the goal of helping farmers identify patterns and make decisions based on their farm’s history.

“Farmers have more data available to them than ever before, but the value comes from their ability to use it in the moments that matter,” said Jahmy Hindman, chief technology officer at John Deere. “JD changes the experience from navigating through a sea of data to simply asking it a question. It puts advanced data analysis within reach by enabling farmers to receive answers tailored to their farm and their needs in a matter of seconds.”

Farmer Data Commitment

Alongside the introduction of JD, John Deere highlighted its Farmer Data Commitment, which outlines 10 principles concerning farm data.

The commitment states that farmers control their farm data and that John Deere does not sell it. It also states that John Deere will use farm data according to its agreements and policies and will communicate changes to those practices before they take effect.

The company said farmers can choose which third parties can access their data and can turn off the flow of farm data to third parties. John Deere also stated that it does not use farmers’ data for agriculture commodity trading or speculation.

The commitment further states that John Deere uses farm data and aggregated, anonymized data to provide value through improved machine performance and decision-making insights.

“Farmers receive value from their data when they can use it to make better decisions, and we believe that value should come with control, transparency, and choice,” said Deanna Kovar, president, Worldwide Ag & Turf Division: Production and Precision Ag, Americas and Australia at John Deere. “Our view is simple: farmers should control their data, clearly understand how it is used, and benefit from the insights it can create. JD and the Farmer Data Commitment are part of the same vision for helping farmers put their data to work on their terms.”

Early Access and Availability

John Deere is opening a limited Early Access Program for select U.S. agricultural customers. Eligible participants can express interest in participating in the program.

The AI assistant is expected to become more broadly available later in 2026 through Operations Center on web and mobile. John Deere also plans to make JD available through an in-cab display interface eventually.

The company said it plans to expand JD’s capabilities to customers in turf, construction, roadbuilding and forestry.
